Here it goes…….when talking with my fellow stylists here at I Soci Salon, I asked them what I should write about for my first blog entry.  We started on the subject of products and clients who refuse to take recommendations from the professionals.  Here, we carry professional hair care lines that do what they say they do.  I have found many professional hair care lines that are junk, and are way overpriced for how they perform.  Because of that, I can understand how these clients get the wrong idea.

As a business owner and a stylist, I understand how important retail sales are to our business, but I also do not want to lose the trust of my clients.  So, at I Soci we stress how vital it is to recommend products to our clients that really will be a benefit to their hair.  Typically when clients come in complaining about dry hair, limp hair, fading color or how difficult it is to style, 99.9% of the time it is what you are using at home that is the problem.  Shampoo and conditioner that is not right for your hair type can weigh hair down, causing it to be lifeless and dull.  When I cut and style a client who is using products like this, I have a much harder time doing my job because the hair tends to be sticky.  I have spoke with a number of colorists here and they also feel the same way.  Senior Colorist Valerie Metros says: “Your hair needs to be in good condition to color it properly.  Many times I recommend a de-mineralizing process (which is a clarifying shampoo) before I can start the color service.  This adds another step onto the service time.  And, why spend your money on your hair color or cut when you are not maintaining it properly.”  Hilary Mccoy, stylist, colorist, and Wella educator says: “bad shampoo coats the hair not allowing moisture in.  Your hair turns dry and porous from no moisture and effects how the color takes to the hair.”
