Ladies and Gentlemen it is maintenance time, especially your hair and eyebrows.    What are the trends for the season?  Bold color: bright blondes, rich browns, and vibrant reds!  Whatever color works for you.  Go with it! Haircuts are long loose locks, jagged edged bobs with bold fringe or super short pixie cuts that have soft edges.  It is always what looks best on you.

Eyebrows are also equally important.  Mondi Hodgdon I Soci Salon’s Eyebrow specialist says, “Don’t forget about those eyebrows that have been hiding under those overgrown bangs”.

We’re working with an organization called Matter of Trust, which has a program “Hair for Booms” where human hair clippings are made into booms that help absorb oil in the ocean.

I Soci is sending in hair clippings to the program. Here’s some info on the program, and how you can help.

Natural Fiber Recycling mobilization is currently taking place to help get hair boom to the Gulf Coast Spill. We have 19 donated warehouses spread along Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Florida that are receiving hair from donors all over the US, Canada and beyond! There are thousands of volunteers signing up to have Stocking Stuffers and Bar B Q parties where they’re making the boom. They’re calling them Boom B Qs.

We are collecting hair clippings and shipping them to Florida because hair absorbs oil in the ocean.  It’s quite a large collective of salons nationally that are involved, so we thought it was a cool thing to do as well.  It’s called Hair For Booms.

I Soci has offered extensions for years now.  Just recently, a woman from Hair Stiletto paid us a visit, promising to provide us with the best hair around for extensions.  I wasn’t particularly happy with what we were using so I decided to go for it.  The hair arrived, and it was GORGEOUS.  It really opened my eyes to what extension could be.

As an experiment, Jenn (our extensions expert) and I decided to put them in her hair so she could feel them from a client’s perspective.  We use extensions that bond strands of hair near the root with a keratin based glue.  When I was applying the extensions, the glue turned fiber-like when it was melted.  I was really amazing, and it was a huge improvement over what we had used in the past.  “It is really amazing”, says Jenn Crowley, “these particular extensions were really light and moved like my own hair.”

I had been down on the use of extensions lately.  Now I realize it was down the product we were using.  Now, I will be telling all of my clients of the major advancements that have taken place in the world of extension application.  “Any client who loves volume, length, or pops of color should be banging down our door,” says Jenn.
